|
* build: remove PVSdundargoc2023-11-12
| | | | | | | We already have an extensive suite of static analysis tools we use, which causes a fair bit of redundancy as we get duplicate warnings. PVS is also prone to give false warnings which creates a lot of work to identify and disable.
* refactor: allow not having a `default` case for enumFamiu Haque2023-10-10
| | | | | | Problem: The style guide states that all switch statements that are not conditional on an enum must have a `default` case, but does not give any explicit guideline for switch statements that are conditional on enums. As a result, a `default` case is added in many enum switch statements, even when the switch statement is exhaustive. This is not ideal because it removes the ability to have compiler errors to easily detect unchanged switch statements when a new possible value for an enum is added. Solution: Add explicit guidelines for switch statements that are conditional on an enum, clarifying that a `default` case is not necessary if the switch statement is exhaustive. Also refactor pre-existing code with unnecessary `default` cases.

* refactor(memline): distinguish mutating uses of ml_get_buf()bfredl2023-08-24
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | ml_get_buf() takes a third parameters to indicate whether the caller wants to mutate the memline data in place. However the vast majority of the call sites is using this function just to specify a buffer but without any mutation. This makes it harder to grep for the places which actually perform mutation. Solution: Remove the bool param from ml_get_buf(). it now works like ml_get() except for a non-current buffer. Add a new ml_get_buf_mut() function for the mutating use-case, which can be grepped along with the other ml_replace() etc functions which can modify the memline.
* refactor(api): use typed keysetsbfredl2023-08-07
| | | | | Initially this is just for geting rid of boilerplate, but eventually the types could get exposed as metadata
* feat(api): add nvim_win_text_height (#24236)zeertzjq2023-07-11
| | | | It uses the same code as "scroll_delta" of "win_viewport" UI event to calculate text height, but is more flexible.
* test: spellcheck :help (vimdoc) files #24109Justin M. Keyes2023-06-22
| | | | | | | Enforce consistent terminology (defined in `gen_help_html.lua:spell_dict`) for common misspellings. This does not spellcheck English in general (perhaps a future TODO, though it may be noisy).
* refactor(api): new helper macrosFamiu Haque2023-05-23
| | | | Adds new API helper macros `CSTR_AS_OBJ()`, `STATIC_CSTR_AS_OBJ()`, and `STATIC_CSTR_TO_OBJ()`, which cleans up a lot of the current code. These macros will also be used extensively in the upcoming option refactor PRs because then API Objects will be used to get/set options. This PR also modifies pre-existing code to use old API helper macros like `CSTR_TO_OBJ()` to make them cleaner.
* feat(api): evaluate 'statuscolumn' with nvim_eval_statusline()Luuk van Baal2023-04-05

* refactor(api): VALIDATE macros #22256Justin M. Keyes2023-02-14
| | | | | | - VALIDATE() takes a format string - deduplicate check_string_array - VALIDATE_RANGE - validate UI args
* refactor(api): VALIDATE macros #22187Justin M. Keyes2023-02-14
| | | | | | | | | Problem: - API validation involves too much boilerplate. - API validation errors are not consistently worded. Solution: Introduce some macros. Currently these are clumsy, but they at least help with consistency and avoid some nesting.
* feat(api): show more exception infoerw72023-01-16

* refactor: fix IWYU mapping file and use IWYU (#21802)dundargoc2023-01-15
| | | Also add the EXITFREE definition to main_lib rather than the nvim target, as the header generation needs the EXITFREE flag to work properly.

* build: allow IWYU to fix includes for all .c filesdundargoc2022-11-15
| | | | | | | | | | Allow Include What You Use to remove unnecessary includes and only include what is necessary. This helps with reducing compilation times and makes it easier to visualise which dependencies are actually required. Work on https://github.com/neovim/neovim/issues/549, but doesn't close it since this only works fully for .c files and not headers.
* feat(lua-api): avoid unnecessary allocations (#19877)Lewis Russell2022-11-14
| | | | Lua makes (or reuses) an internal copy of strings, so we can safely push buf pointers onto the stack.

* refactor: move klib out of src/nvim/ #20341dundargoc2022-09-25
| | | | It's confusing to mix vendored dependencies with neovim source code. A clean separation is simpler to keep track of and simpler to document.

* fix(exceptions): restore `did_throw` (#20000)Sean Dewar2022-08-30
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | `!did_throw` doesn't exactly imply `!current_exception`, as `did_throw = false` is sometimes used to defer exception handling for later (without forgetting the exception). E.g: uncaught exception handling in `do_cmdline()` may be deferred to a different call (e.g: when `try_level > 0`). In #7881, `current_exception = NULL` in `do_cmdline()` is used as an analogue of `did_throw = false`, but also causes the pending exception to be lost, which also leaks as `discard_exception()` wasn't used. It may be possible to fix this by saving/restoring `current_exception`, but handling all of `did_throw`'s edge cases seems messier. Maybe not worth diverging over. This fix also uncovers a `man_spec.lua` bug on Windows: exceptions are thrown due to Windows missing `man`, but they're lost; skip these tests if `man` isn't executable.
* refactor(api): provide a temporary copy solution for nvim_call_atomicbfredl2022-08-24
| | | | | | Make the copy_object() family accept an optional arena. More than half of the callsites should be refactored to use an arena later anyway.
* refactor: remove some unused includes (#19747)zeertzjq2022-08-13
| | | | | - Remove autocmd.h from fileio.h - Remove normal.h from main.h - Move bufinfo_T from undo_defs.h to undo.c
* refactor: move non-symbols in ex_eval.h to ex_eval_defs.h (#19739)zeertzjq2022-08-12
| | | | This avoids including ex_eval.h in any other header, thus preventing future circular includes.
* feat(marks): restore viewport on jump #15831Javier Lopez2022-06-30
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | ** Refactor Previously most functions used to "get" a mark returned a position, changed the line number and sometimes changed even the current buffer. Now functions return a {x}fmark_T making calling context aware whether the mark is in another buffer without arcane casting. A new function is provided for switching to the mark buffer and returning a flag style Enum to convey what happen in the movement. If the cursor changed, line, columns, if it changed buffer, etc. The function to get named mark was split into multiple functions. - mark_get() -> fmark_T - mark_get_global() -> xfmark_T - mark_get_local() -> fmark_T - mark_get_motion() -> fmark_T - mark_get_visual() -> fmark_T Functions that manage the changelist and jumplist were also modified to return mark types. - get_jumplist -> fmark_T - get_changelist -> fmark_T The refactor is also seen mainly on normal.c, where all the mark movement has been siphoned through one function nv_gomark, while the other functions handle getting the mark and setting their movement flags. To handle whether context marks should be left, etc. ** Mark View While doing the refactor the concept of a mark view was also implemented: The view of a mark currently implemented as the number of lines between the mark position on creation and the window topline. This allows for moving not only back to the position of a mark but having the window look similar to when the mark was defined. This is done by carrying and extra element in the fmark_T struct, which can be extended later to also restore horizontal shift. *** User space features 1. There's a new option, jumpoptions+=view enables the mark view restoring automatically when using the jumplist, changelist, alternate-file and mark motions. <C-O> <C-I> g; g, <C-^> '[mark] `[mark] ** Limitations - The view information is not saved in shada. - Calls to get_mark should copy the value in the pointer since we are using pos_to_mark() to wrap and provide a homogeneous interfaces. This was also a limitation in the previous state of things.
* refactor: move some mapping-related code to a separate file (#19061)zeertzjq2022-06-23
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This marks the following Vim patches as ported: vim-patch:8.1.1785: map functionality mixed with character input Problem: Map functionality mixed with character input. Solution: Move the map functionality to a separate file. (Yegappan Lakshmanan, closes vim/vim#4740) Graduate the +localmap feature. https://github.com/vim/vim/commit/b66bab381c8ba71fd6e92327d1d34c6f8a65f2a7 vim-patch:8.2.3643: header for source file is outdated Problem: Header for source file is outdated. Solution: Make the header more accurate. (closes vim/vim#9186) https://github.com/vim/vim/commit/a3f83feb63eae5464a620ae793c002eb45f7a838 Also cherry-pick a change for <unique> mappings from patch 8.2.0807. Rename map_clear_mode() to do_mapclear().
* perf(highlight): allocate permanent names in an arena for fun and cache localitybfredl2022-06-21
|
* perf(ui): reduce allocation overhead when encoding "redraw" eventsbfredl2022-06-20
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Note for external UIs: Nvim can now emit multiple "redraw" event batches before a final "flush" event is received. To retain existing behavior, clients should make sure to update visible state at an explicit "flush" event, not just the end of a "redraw" batch of event. * Get rid of copy_object() blizzard in the auto-generated ui_event layer * Special case "grid_line" by encoding screen state directly to msgpack events with no intermediate API events. * Get rid of the arcane notion of referring to the screen as the "shell" * Array and Dictionary are kvec_t:s, so define them as such. * Allow kvec_t:s, such as Arrays and Dictionaries, to be allocated with a predetermined size within an arena. * Eliminate redundant capacity checking when filling such kvec_t:s with values.

* refactor: change type of linenr_T from long to int32_tDundar Goc2022-06-10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | The size of long varies depending on architecture, in contrast to the MAXLNUM constant which sets the maximum allowable number of lines to 2^32-1. This discrepancy may lead to hard to detect bugs, for example https://github.com/neovim/neovim/issues/18454. Setting linenr_T to a fix maximum size of 2^32-1 will prevent this type of errors in the future. Also change the variables `amount` and `amount_after` to be linenr_T since they're referring to "the line number difference" between two texts.
* refactor: correct comments and assertions about mapping rhs <Nop> (#18821)zeertzjq2022-06-01
| | | | | | | | Also avoid referring to mappings as "keymaps" in commands and docs. *map_empty_rhs* *map-empty-rhs* You can create an empty {rhs} by typing nothing after a single CTRL-V (you have to type CTRL-V two times). Unfortunately, you cannot do this in a vimrc file.
* feat: add preview functionality to user commandsFamiu Haque2022-05-31
