* build(vim-patch): n/a patches since v9.1.0500 #42320Jan Edmund Lazo8 days
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | * build(vim-patch): v9.1.0500 is n/a * build(vim-patch): n/a change in src/po/Make* Nvim uses "TARGET_FILE:nvim_bin" in CMake. * build(vim-patch): runtime/doc/pi_netrw.txt should be n/a Minor differences between netrw docs are not relevant to Neovim. Vim keeps pi_netrw.txt to add/override few lines but it is partly "behind" upstream netrw. - runtime/doc/pi_netrw.txt - runtime/pack/dist/opt/netrw/doc/netrw.txt * build(vim-patch): track ':Tutor' patches ":Tutor" remains maintained based on recent Github issues such that Neovim does not rely on Vim patches to fix its own implementation. Develepor may port Vim patches that fix Vim's implementation of ":Tutor" but Vim and Neovim remain incompatible after Neovim replace metadata JSON files with inline comments, https://github.com/neovim/neovim/issues/38527 . Vim and Neovim are not obligated to restrict their tutor files in order to ensure 100% (backward) compatibility on both editors. Both will use their exclusive and incompatible features to enhance the user experience in ":Tutor". Continue to track ":Tutor" patches to not discourage contributors on both projects. Target 6fa304f27d630f4c11c903a61d434f739230e8e1 . * build(vim-patch): n/a tabpanel changes from v9.1.1391
* build(vim-patch): n/a patches for translations #42222Jan Edmund Lazo2026-10-03
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | * build(vim-patch): n/a hunks from v9.0.1410 Detect patches for N/A translations. https://github.com/neovim/neovim/pull/5622 remove some non-UTF8 "po" files. Nvim has different process for "mo" files. * build(vim-patch): tojavascript.vim is n/a N/A since https://github.com/neovim/neovim/pull/36505 . * build(vim-patch): v9.0.1537 is n/a PO_VIM_ variables are only for N/A tasks: "first_time", "*.pot". "first_time" task has similar/identical shell commands to "*.pot" task.
* build(vim-patch): n/a patch since v9.2.0723 #41998Jan Edmund Lazo2026-09-20
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | * build(vim-patch): n/a tags from bc2141d27d74823a12a8c0b94262583b45edfed1 Nvim kept docs for command ":TOhtml", not the section for "2html.vim". Vim9script rewrite makes the plugin N/A. * build(vim-patch): v9.2.0723 is n/a * build(vim-patch): v9.2.0875 is n/a Nvim does not compile GTK4 for its GUI. * build(vim-patch): v9.2.0912 is n/a ":hardcopy" has been N/A since v0.9. I can't auto-N/A v9.2.0898 because of OS #ifdefs. * build(vim-patch): v9.2.1109 is n/a
* build(vim-patch): n/a patches since v9.1.1564 #41772Jan Edmund Lazo2026-09-12
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | * build(vim-patch): v9.1.1564 is n/a * build(vim-patch): v9.1.1743 is n/a * build(vim-patch): v9.1.1745 is n/a * build(vim-patch): 39acad46fa7bce974f2bb036843009b8f4669ff8 is n/a colorresp plugin is n/a. Vim added it v9.1.1703 and then removed it in v9.1.1757. Nvim does not rely on Vimscript (API) to set 'v:term.*' variables for the end-users terminal. * build(vim-patch): v9.1.1795 is n/a * build(vim-patch): 93d9d196ed3a70174ba5e790d9e36e0478e84a09 is n/a X11 fonts for multi-byte feature is N/A. * build(vim-patch): v9.2.0060 is n/a Vim's implementation/support of Debug Adapter Protocol is N/A, especially if it relies on Vim channels, JSON, JSON-RPC, etc. https://github.com/neovim/neovim/issues/11732 has discussion and status updates for Nvim's implementation. * build(vim-patch): v9.2.0153 is n/a Vim channel is N/A. Nvim generates "runtime/syntax/vim/generated.vim" based on "src/nvim/*.lua" since https://github.com/neovim/neovim/pull/2288 .
* build(vim-patch): v9.1.0681 should be auto-n/aJan Edmund Lazo2026-09-07
| | | | | | Vim screendump files and Vim9script screendump code are N/A. vim-patch.sh cannot auto-N/A the entire patch because of "src/testdir/README.txt".
* build(vim-patch): 2ca7d5f4831ce3d86cdc3f0c844fc50ea0deb7e5 is n/aJan Edmund Lazo2026-09-02
| | | | v9.1.1029 removes runtime/doc/uganda.rux.
* build(vim-patch): v9.1.0578 is n/a #41585Jan Edmund Lazo2026-09-02
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Nvim implementation of ":TOhtml" fails on test_tohtml.vim because they compare with the sample test files. Customizing the sample files to pass Vim's test is maintenance burden. Nvim has lua functional tests to skip Vim's tests. Nvim's test Makefile computes NEW_TESTS, NEW_TESTS_RES, unlike Vim. Likely N/A. Following runtime/ files are N/A after Lua rewrite. - runtime/autoload/tohtml.vim - runtime/syntax/2html.vim - runtime/plugin/tohtml.vim
* build(vim-patch): v9.2.0565 is n/aJan Edmund Lazo2026-08-26

* build(vim-patch): n/a popup_ api #41270Jan Edmund Lazo2026-08-12
| | | | | | | | | | | | - enums - macros - struct members - popup_.*() 8.1.1523 * build(vim-patch): 8.1.0863 is almost auto n/a Can't ignore os_unix.c hunk for "failed:" .
* build(vim-patch): sound feature is n/a (#41257)Jan Edmund Lazo2026-08-10
| | | | | | | | Vim core did not leverage it to override/customize bell/beep. It wasn't used for custom sounds for system/user (autocmd) events. It should be in-scope for GUI, unlike terminal, even as a plugin by leveraging some internal option similar to `set guioptions+=!`. No progress as of Vim 9.2 so I quit.
* build(vim-patch): os makefile for tests are n/aJan Edmund Lazo2026-08-06
| | | | | | | | | Following remain relevant: - src/testdir/Makefile (default setup in Unix-like OS) - src/testdir/Make_all.mak (define old/new style Vim tests) Rest are n/a because Nvim runs Vim's tests on GHA Windows runner.
* docs: misc, :bcd, slug()Justin M. Keyes2026-08-06

* build(vim-patch): clientserver feature is N/AJan Edmund Lazo2026-07-29
| | | | | Shared API, documented in remote.txt, is surface-level. Assume 0% compatiblity from Vim.
* build(vim-patch): logfile.c is N/AJan Edmund Lazo2026-07-23
| | | | Vim channel API logging is N/A.
* build(vim-patch): n/a doc for channel,job apiJan Edmund Lazo2026-07-23
| | | | | | | | Vim's code and test for channel,job API are already N/A. Blacklisting runtime/doc/channel.txt ensures most patches for it will be detected as N/A. Vim's API that is too incompatible with Neovim must be handled outside vim-patch.sh .
* build(vim-patch): detect patch v8.2.0000 as N/AJan Edmund Lazo2026-07-14
| | | | | | | | | | Following features must be N/A to detect v8.Y.0000 as N/A - VisVim - Windows *.def files - Gvim - runtime/doc/version8.txt ("too old") (https://github.com/neovim/neovim/pull/1116 deletes version7.txt)
* build(vim-patch): src/version.h is N/A #40730Jan Edmund Lazo2026-07-13
| | | | | | | | | PR https://github.com/neovim/neovim/pull/36585 enabled "scripts/vim-patch.sh", "scripts/vimpatch.lua" to optimize out (all?) macros from Vim's "src/version.h". If it does have relevant updates, then the applicable files (ie. src/version.c) will use them to make the patch applicable. Goal - Detect N/A patches for Vim release vX.Y.0000.
* build(vim-patch): mark 'tabpanel' files as N/A #40538Jan Edmund Lazo2026-07-02
| | | | | | | | | https://github.com/neovim/neovim/issues/34273 was not reopened. Unsure if this feature warrants C code based on current codebase and ecosystem. Nvim avoided CVE because it hasn't ported this feature both "autocmd_add()". N/A C functions outside these files will be marked N/A if https://github.com/neovim/neovim/pull/40473 is merged.
* build(vim-patch): add N/A src/ files #40468Jan Edmund Lazo2026-06-28
| | | | | | | | socketserver.c is not compatible with Neovim's server implementation. cairo, kitty, sixel, and similar backends for image rendering in popup are not required in Neovim's C core. Neovim can do this and even run Doom. See patch 9.2.0612.
* build(vim-patch): test_mswin_event() is N/A (#40158)Jan Edmund Lazo2026-06-10
| | | | Relies on keycode/event handling specific to Windows instead of "standard (test) API" for all OS.
* build(vim-patch): N/A test files #40045Jan Edmund Lazo2026-05-29
| | | | | - keycode_check.json - test_alot_latin.vim - test_expand_dllpath.vim
* build(vim-patch): AGENTS.md is N/A #39490Jan Edmund Lazo2026-04-29
| | | | | Neovim did not port it from Vim. Vim must design its AGENTS.md only for itself, ignoring Neovim, for optimal AI behavior.
* vim-patch:8.2.2128: there is no way to do something on CTRL-Z (#39440)Jan Edmund Lazo2026-04-27
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Problem: There is no way to do something on CTRL-Z. Solution: Add VimSuspend and VimResume autocommand events. (closes vim/vim#7450) https://github.com/vim/vim/commit/100118c73ac068137cd298d22953896242752523 ---- Nvim implemented these events first and has enough tests. test_suspend.vim relies on Vim 'terminal' feature. Treat it as N/A even if all tests could be ported as Lua functional screen/terminal tests. ---- Co-authored-by: Bram Moolenaar <Bram@vim.org>
* build(vim-patch): update N/A test files (#39405)Jan Edmund Lazo2026-04-26
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | * build(vim-patch): test_clientserver.vim is N/A Requires 'job' and 'clientserver' features. Both N/A for Neovim. * build(vim-patch): test_gui_init.vim is N/A Starts with command 'CheckCanRuiGui' . Nvim doesn't support ':gui' (yet). * build(vim-patch): test_plugin_vimball.vim is N/A Run ':h vimball'. * build(vim-patch): test_remote.vim is N/A Needs 'clientserver', 'terminal' features. * build(vim-patch): test_short_sleep.py is for test_terminal.vim. Both N/A * build(vim-patch): mark N/A files from test_crypt.vim * build(vim-patch): mark N/A file for test_terminal3.vim * build(vim-patch): mark N/A files channel/terminal/vim9 tests
* vim-patch:8.2.0898: missing help for a function goes unnoticedJan Edmund Lazo2026-04-11
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Problem: Missing help for a function goes unnoticed. Solution: Add a test. (Gary Johnson) https://github.com/vim/vim/commit/6b0e528368415476bfc3a8414c9c70f9852b1517 ---- Test relies on parsing runtime/doc/*.txt and src/evalfunc.c . Error-prone because Vim and Nvim diverged on both documentation and source code in spite of ported Vim patches. Importing src/nvim/eval.lua is an alternative but it uses associatve index such that it's unsorted. Treat it as N/A because I can't rewrite any of its tests under minimal effort. ---- Co-authored-by: Bram Moolenaar <Bram@vim.org>
* build(vim-patch): N/A runtime files (#38666)Jan Edmund Lazo2026-04-01
| | | | | | | | | * fix(vim-patch): runtime/doc/print.txt is N/A - https://github.com/neovim/neovim/issues/21471 * fix(vim-patch): test_urls.vim is N/A - https://github.com/neovim/neovim/pull/35593
* vim-patch:9.1.0327,9.2.0019 (#38567)Jan Edmund Lazo2026-03-30
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | * vim-patch:9.2.0019: Hard to configure Vim according to full XDG spec Problem: Hard to configure Vim according to full XDG spec Solution: Include the $VIMRUNTIME/xdg.vim script as an example. (Andrey Butirsky). closes: vim/vim#19421 ---- Nvim already supports XDG spec and provides 'stdpath()'. runtime/xdg.vim is N/A. ---- https://github.com/vim/vim/commit/4f04efb760af4f51975091ace7605c3dbd01d0c9 * vim-patch:9.1.0327: No support for using $XDG_CONFIG_HOME Problem: No support for using $XDG_CONFIG_HOME Solution: optionally source $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/vim/vimrc (Luca Saccarola) fixes: vim/vim#2034 closes: vim/vim#14182 --- test_xdg.vim can be applicable but it's a chore to swap "vimrc" with "init.vim" and comment out gvimrc in all tests. Nvim has enough XDG functional tests and runtime documentation. Vim eventually rewrites the screendump tests such that Nvim can run them in Unix-like systems. It's possible to just port the latest version and treat the older patches as N/A. --- https://github.com/vim/vim/commit/c9df1fb35a1866901c32df37dd39c8b39dbdb64a
* fix(vim-patch): add N/A files and re-sort (#37544)Jan Edmund Lazo2026-01-25
| | | | Nvim doesn't maintain runtime/macros/README.txt. Nvim has existing linting rules for preprocesor.
* vim-patch:9.1.1984: terminal OSC52 support can be improved (#37543)Jan Edmund Lazo2026-01-25
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Problem: terminal OSC52 support to access the clipboard can be improved Solution: Include and package the optional osc52 package, note: this requires a Vim with clipboard provider feature (Foxe Chen). related: vim/vim#14995 closes: vim/vim#18575 https://github.com/vim/vim/commit/02b8ec7da52bb11e49d3e0d801eb0d349c73677e ---- Nvim has incompatible implementation for OSC52 clipboard provider. Vim9 is N/A. Co-authored-by: Foxe Chen <chen.foxe@gmail.com>
* vim-patch:9.1.0697: [security]: heap-buffer-overflow in ins_typebuf (#37372)Jan Edmund Lazo2026-01-15
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Problem: heap-buffer-overflow in ins_typebuf (SuyueGuo) Solution: When flushing the typeahead buffer, validate that there is enough space left Github Advisory: https://github.com/vim/vim/security/advisories/GHSA-4ghr-c62x-cqfh https://github.com/vim/vim/commit/322ba9108612bead5eb7731ccb66763dec69ef1b Co-authored-by: Christian Brabandt <cb@256bit.org>
* build(vim-patch): Vim9 comment plugin is N/A (#37370)Jan Edmund Lazo2026-01-12
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Nvim has builtin 'gc' commenting, instead of bundling https://github.com/tpope/vim-commentary, partly for treesitter. Vim9 comment plugin, runtime/pack/dist/opt/comment/ seems to be based on https://github.com/habamax/.vim/blob/master/autoload/comment.vim which is similar to vim-commentary. test/functional/lua/comment_spec.lua has enough tests to justify skipping test_plugin_comment.vim. Vim's terminal + packadd + Vim9 test files is a chore to manually port. - https://github.com/neovim/neovim/commit/73de98256cf3932dca156fbfd0c82c1cc10d487e - https://github.com/vim/vim/pull/14634
* build(vim-patch): getscript plugin is N/A (#37247)Jan Edmund Lazo2026-01-05
| | | | - https://github.com/neovim/neovim/issues/2231#issuecomment-89873348 - https://github.com/neovim/neovim/pull/3826
* build(vim-patch): update Vim N/A file/regexp (#37049)Jan Edmund Lazo2026-01-04
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | * fix(vim-patch): test_codestyle.vim is NA Neovim has make lint, specifically clint.lua. Unless vim9jit, https://github.com/tjdevries/vim9jit, or similar tool compiles vim9 "test" code into lua, it's futile to port it. * fix(vim-patch): NA files from dev_vimpatch.txt - channel - json - job - term - terminal Nvim has its own incompatible implementation or uses 3rd-party libraries (ie. libuv, libtermkey). * fix(vim-patch): term.c is applicable for replace_termcodes() * fix(vim-patch/na): blowfish,dlldata,iid_ole,nbdebug,os_w32 blowfish is for encryption. dlldata,iid_ole,os_w32 are for Windows (GUI, registry, entry point). Nvim doesn't need them to be installed on Windows. nbdebug.[ch] is for Netbeans Debugging Tools. They're N/A. * fix(vim-patch): runtime/ Nvim has its own documentation for development - runtime/doc/debug.txt - runtime/doc/develop.txt N/A since the beginning: - runtime/doc/os_haiku.txt - runtime/doc/pi_logipat.txt - runtime/doc/quotes.txt - runtime/plugin/logiPat.vim - runtime/plugin/manpager.vim - runtime/tools/demoserver.py - runtime/spell/.*\.latin1 Vim9 is N/A. - runtime/doc/os_haiku.txt * fix(vim-patch): src/ win32yank replaces "src/winclip.c". Vim's desktop files are N/A. Nvim removed 'termencoding'. Nvim doesn't use Vim's lsan-suppress.txt to configures LSAN.
* feat(vim-patch.sh): add n flag to list possible N/A patches (#36431)Jan Edmund Lazo2025-11-11
Scan all unmerged Vim commits to determine which commits are N/A for Neovim. vim_na_regexp.txt contains the file patterns to filter out N/A files in a Vim commit. vim_na_files.txt contains "absolute filepath" of N/A files. It relies on vim_na_regexp.txt to reduce file size. If version.c remains and it has the expected 2-liner update, then it's considered N/A. https://github.com/neovim/neovim/discussions/36326
