* test(harness): migrate away from magic globalsJustin M. Keyes2026-07-21
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Problem: The magic globals `it`, `describe`, etc., are more trouble than they are worth. - Hooking into `after_each` requires `getfenv()` hacks. - They confuse luals/emmylua, because the top-level `.luarc.json` isn't merged with `test/.luarc.json` (apparently a luals limitation?) - They totally defeat discoverability because the user just has to "know" about the various magic symbols. So they harm DX, which means they serve no purpose at all. Solution: - Expose the test API from `testutil`, so tests can call `t.it()`, `t.describe()`, etc., in the conventional way. - Drop `getfenv()` hacks. - Drop the `setfenv()` injection in `load_chunk`. - Drop `test/_meta.lua`.
* fix(trust): always use "/" slashes in filepaths #39355Justin M. Keyes2026-04-24
| | | | | | | | Problem: We should not use "\" (backslashes) except where absolutely required. See references in https://github.com/neovim/neovim/pull/37729 Solution: There is no reason to use "\" slashes in the trust db, so don't.

* fix(trust): hash unchanged empty buffers as empty files #39027Barrett Ruth2026-04-23
| | | | | | | | | Problem: `vim.secure.trust()` hashes an unchanged empty buffer as a newline, so trusting an empty file by buffer never works. Solution: Hash unchanged empty-buffers `''` so buffer-based trust matches the on-disk empty file.
* test: support running functionaltests in parallel by directory (#37918)zeertzjq2026-02-18
| | | | | | | | | Define a CMake target for every subdirectory of test/functional that contains functional tests, and a functionaltest_parallel target that depends on all those targets, allowing multiple test runners to run in parallel. On CI, use at most 2 parallel test runners, as using more may increase system load and make tests unstable.
* fix(excmd): :trust executed even when inside false condition (#36032)zeertzjq2025-10-05
| | | | | Problem: :trust is executed even when inside false condition. Solution: Make skip_cmd() return true for CMD_trust, as ex_trust() does not handle eap->skip itself.

* test: improve test conventionsdundargoc2024-04-23
| | | | | | | | | Specifically, functions that are run in the context of the test runner are put in module `test/testutil.lua` while the functions that are run in the context of the test session are put in `test/functional/testnvim.lua`. Closes https://github.com/neovim/neovim/issues/27004.

* feat(secure): add `:trust` command and vim.secure.trust() (#21107)Jlll12022-11-28
Introduce vim.secure.trust() to programmatically manage the trust database. Use this function in a new :trust ex command which can be used as a simple frontend.
