* test(harness): migrate away from magic globalsJustin M. Keyes2026-07-21
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Problem: The magic globals `it`, `describe`, etc., are more trouble than they are worth. - Hooking into `after_each` requires `getfenv()` hacks. - They confuse luals/emmylua, because the top-level `.luarc.json` isn't merged with `test/.luarc.json` (apparently a luals limitation?) - They totally defeat discoverability because the user just has to "know" about the various magic symbols. So they harm DX, which means they serve no purpose at all. Solution: - Expose the test API from `testutil`, so tests can call `t.it()`, `t.describe()`, etc., in the conventional way. - Drop `getfenv()` hacks. - Drop the `setfenv()` injection in `load_chunk`. - Drop `test/_meta.lua`.
* fix(api): don't update 'title' when renaming non-curbuf #39743luukvbaal2026-05-11
| | | | | Problem: 'title' is updated when changing the name of a non-current buffer with nvim_buf_set_name(). Solution: Set RedrawingDisabled when renaming the buffer.

* fix(path): normalize path slashes on Windows #37729tao2026-04-24
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Problem: On Windows, path separators may become inconsistent for various reasons, which makes normalization quite painful. Solution: Normalize paths to `/` at the entry boundaries and always use it internally, converting back only in rare cases where `\` is really needed (e.g. cmd.exe/bat scripts?). This is the first commit in a series of incremental steps. Note: * some funcs won't respect shellslash. e.g. `expand/fnamemodify` * some funcs still respect shellslash, but will be updated in a follow PR. e.g. `ex_pwd/f_chdir/f_getcwd` * uv's built-in funcs always return `\`. e.g. `uv.cwd/uv.exepath` Co-authored-by: Justin M. * fix(options): default 'titlestring' shows CWD #39233Nick Krichevsky2026-04-22
| | | | | | | Problem: In the default 'titlestring', if the containing directory is the CWD, it renders as "." Solution: Add `:p` to the titlestring.
* fix(terminal): add various missing redrawsSean Dewar2025-08-26
| | | | | | | | | | | | Problem: missing redraws when restoring saved cursorline/column, plus missing statusline and mode redraws when not updating the screen in terminal mode. Solution: schedule the redraws in a similar manner to other modes and remove some now unnecessary redrawing logic. Redraw if cursorline-related options change from entering terminal mode. This fixes test failures in later commits. WTF: TextChangedT triggers based on must_redraw, which is... fun...? Try to preserve its behaviour as much as we can for now.
* feat(jobs): jobstart(…,{term=true}), deprecate termopen() #31343Justin M. Keyes2024-12-19
| | | | | | | | | | | | Problem: `termopen` has long been a superficial wrapper around `jobstart`, and has no real purpose. Also, `vim.system` and `nvim_open_term` presumably will replace all features of `jobstart` and `termopen`, so centralizing the logic will help with that. Solution: - Introduce `eval/deprecated.c`, where all deprecated eval funcs will live. - Introduce "term" flag of `jobstart`. - Deprecate `termopen`.

* fix(tests): needing two calls to setup a screen is cringebfredl2024-11-14
| | | | | | | | | | Before calling "attach" a screen object is just a dummy container for (row, col) values whose purpose is to be sent as part of the "attach" function call anyway. Just create the screen in an attached state directly. Keep the complete (row, col, options) config together. It is still completely valid to later detach and re-attach as needed, including to another session.

* refactor: use `vim._with` where possibledundargoc2024-06-28
| | | | | This mostly means replacing `nvim_buf_call` and `nvim_win_call` with `vim._with`.
* test: improve test conventionsdundargoc2024-04-23
| | | | | | | | | Specifically, functions that are run in the context of the test runner are put in module `test/testutil.lua` while the functions that are run in the context of the test session are put in `test/functional/testnvim.lua`. Closes https://github.com/neovim/neovim/issues/27004.

* vim-patch:8.2.4208: using setbufvar() may change the window titlezeertzjq2023-08-21
| | | | | | | | | Problem: Using setbufvar() may change the window title. Solution: Do not redraw when creating the autocommand window. (closes vim/vim#9613) https://github.com/vim/vim/commit/dff97e65eb1bb24c44c2b7430a480888d8afb3f4 Co-authored-by: Bram Moolenaar <Bram@vim.org>
