* fix(ctx): missing options copy when loading hidden buffer #41149zeertzjq2026-08-04
| | | | | It's necessary to copy the global 'fileencoding' to the buffer-local value before entering the buffer, otherwise 'fileencoding' is changed when reading the file, which will mark the file as modified.
* test(harness): migrate away from magic globalsJustin M. Keyes2026-07-21
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Problem: The magic globals `it`, `describe`, etc., are more trouble than they are worth. - Hooking into `after_each` requires `getfenv()` hacks. - They confuse luals/emmylua, because the top-level `.luarc.json` isn't merged with `test/.luarc.json` (apparently a luals limitation?) - They totally defeat discoverability because the user just has to "know" about the various magic symbols. So they harm DX, which means they serve no purpose at all. Solution: - Expose the test API from `testutil`, so tests can call `t.it()`, `t.describe()`, etc., in the conventional way. - Drop `getfenv()` hacks. - Drop the `setfenv()` injection in `load_chunk`. - Drop `test/_meta.lua`.
* vim-patch:8.2.1888: Vim9: getbufline(-1, 1, '$') gives an errorJan Edmund Lazo2026-06-21
| | | | | | | | | Problem: Vim9: Getbufline(-1, 1, '$') gives an error. Solution: Return an empty list. (closes vim/vim#7180) https://github.com/vim/vim/commit/e6e70a10f118ecfa9df2425e8724bc009bd09929 Co-authored-by: Bram Moolenaar <Bram@vim.org>
* fix(path): normalize path slashes on Windows #37729tao2026-04-24
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Problem: On Windows, path separators may become inconsistent for various reasons, which makes normalization quite painful. Solution: Normalize paths to `/` at the entry boundaries and always use it internally, converting back only in rare cases where `\` is really needed (e.g. cmd.exe/bat scripts?). This is the first commit in a series of incremental steps. Note: * some funcs won't respect shellslash. e.g. `expand/fnamemodify` * some funcs still respect shellslash, but will be updated in a follow PR. e.g. `ex_pwd/f_chdir/f_getcwd` * uv's built-in funcs always return `\`. e.g. `uv.cwd/uv.exepath` Co-authored-by: Justin M. * test: improve test conventionsdundargoc2024-04-23
| | | | | | | | | Specifically, functions that are run in the context of the test runner are put in module `test/testutil.lua` while the functions that are run in the context of the test session are put in `test/functional/testnvim.lua`. Closes https://github.com/neovim/neovim/issues/27004.

* test: don't unnecessarily specify win/buf for `nvim_(get|set)_option_value`Famiu Haque2023-05-22
| | | | `nvim_(get|set)_option_value` pick the current buffer / window by default for buffer-local/window-local (but not global-local) options. So specifying `buf = 0` or `win = 0` in opts is unnecessary for those options. This PR removes those to reduce code clutter.

* test: replace lfs with luv and vim.fsdundargoc2023-04-04
| | | | | | test: replace lfs with luv luv already pretty much does everything lfs does, so this duplication of dependencies isn't needed.
* vim-patch:9.0.0090: no error when assigning bool to a string option (#19539)zeertzjq2022-07-27
| | | | | Problem: No error when assigning bool to a string option with setwinvar(). Solution: Give an error (closes vim/vim#10766) https://github.com/vim/vim/commit/28f84e17b068daca2635692d279930dcb7a150d0
* test: reorg #15698Justin M. Keyes2021-09-17
Problem: Subdirectories like "visual", "insert", "normal" encourage people to separate *related* tests for no good reason. Typically the _mode_ is not the relevant topic of a test (and when it is, _then_ create an appropriate describe() or it()). Solution: - Delete the various `test/functional/<mode>/` subdirectories, move their tests to more meaningful topics. - Rename `…/normal/` to `…/editor/`. - Move or merge `…/visual/*` and `…/insert/*` tests into here where appropriate. - Rename `…/eval/` to `…/vimscript/`. - Move `…/viml/*` into here also. * test(reorg): insert/* => editor/mode_insert_spec.lua * test(reorg): cmdline/* => editor/mode_cmdline_spec.lua * test(reorg): eval core tests => eval_spec.lua
