* refactor(event): change last use of klist to kvecbfredl2024-09-28
| | | | | | | | | | | loop->children might have been a linked list because used to be modified in place while looped over. However the loops that exists rather schedules events to be processed later, outside of the loop, so this can not happen anymore. When a linked list is otherwise useful it is better to use lib/queue_defs.h which defines an _intrusive_ linked list (i e it doesn't need to do allocations for list items like klist ).

* refactor(os/input.c): rename os_inchar => input_get #30327Justin M. Keyes2024-09-10
| | | | | | | | | | | Problem: The name `os_inchar` (from Vim's old `mch_inchar`) is ambiguous: "inchar" sounds like it could be reading or enqueuing (setting) input. Its docstring is also ambiguous. Solution: - Rename `os_inchar` to `input_get`. - Write some mf'ing docstrings. - Add assert() in TRY_READ().
* refactor(IWYU): fix headersdundargoc2024-01-11
| | | | | | Remove `export` pramgas from defs headers as it causes IWYU to believe that the definitions from the defs headers comes from main header, which is not what we really want.
* refactor: run IWYU on entire repodundargoc2023-12-21

* refactor: change event_create() to a macro (#26343)zeertzjq2023-12-01
| | | A varargs functions can never be inlined, so a macro is faster.
* build: rework IWYU mapping filesdundargoc2023-11-25
| | | | | Create mapping to most of the C spec and some POSIX specific functions. This is more robust than relying files shipped with IWYU.
* fix(lua): only disable vim.schedule() when closing main loop (#26090)zeertzjq2023-11-17

* refactor: replace manual header guards with #pragma oncedundargoc2023-11-12
| | | | | It is less error-prone than manually defining header guards. Pretty much all compilers support it even if it's not part of the C standard.
* build: remove PVSdundargoc2023-11-12
| | | | | | | We already have an extensive suite of static analysis tools we use, which causes a fair bit of redundancy as we get duplicate warnings. PVS is also prone to give false warnings which creates a lot of work to identify and disable.
* refactor(sleep): simplify rube goldberg implementation of :sleepbfredl2022-12-30
| | | | | | | | | As neovim does have event handling, we are checking for CTRL-C all the time, not once per second. Also, do_sleep() reimplements the same loop as LOOP_PROCESS_EVENTS_UNTIL() already contains internally. Fix the latter to use the right integer type, so we do not need the extra indirection.
* refactor: move klib out of src/nvim/ #20341dundargoc2022-09-25
| | | | It's confusing to mix vendored dependencies with neovim source code. A clean separation is simpler to keep track of and simpler to document.
* fix(jobs): deadlock in channel.c:exit_event #19082erw72022-07-02
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In the rare case that exit_event is called from process_close_handles, it stalls waiting for the process to exit (the routine is currently underway to do just that). This causes `job_spec.lua` to sometimes stall. REJECTED IDEAS: ============================================================== 1. Currently `exit_event` is placed on `main_loop.fast_events`. Would the problem be solved by using `main_loop.events` instead? - A: Maybe, but it will cause other problems, such as queuing exit_event() during "Press Enter..." prompt which may result in the event not being processed, leading to another stall. 2. Can we avoid the timer? - A: Using a timer is just the easiest way to queue a delayed event without causing an infinite loop in the queue currently being processed. 3. Can we avoid the new `exit_need_delay` global... 1. by using `process_is_tearing_down` instead? - A: Can't use `process_is_tearing_down` because its semantics are different. 2. by checking a similar condition as `process_teardown`? https://github.com/neovim/neovim/blob/f50135a32e11c535e1dc3a8e9460c5b4e640ee86/src/nvim/event/process.c#L141-L142 ``` if (!process_is_tearing_down || (kl_empty(main_loop.children) && multiqueue_empty(main_loop.events))) { uv_timer_start(&main_loop.exit_delay_timer, exit_delay_cb, 0, 0); return; } ``` - A: Tried but it did not work (other stalls occurred). Maybe exit_event() is called from a source other than process_close_handles() and is delayed, the delayed exit_event() will be executed before main_loop.events is processed, resulting in an infinite loop.

|/ | | | | It serves no purpose because process_stop() is already guarded by `proc->stopped_time`.
* tui.c: request focus-reporting (fix regression) #7670Justin M. Keyes2017-12-02
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | ref #7649 ref #7664 27f9b1c7b029d8 caused a regression: it uses loop_schedule_deferred() to defer emitting the "enable focus reporting" termcode. tui_main() never processes `tui_loop.events` (which loop_schedule_deferred() depends on), so the event was never actually processed. But fixing that (by processing `tui_loop.events`) would bring back the problem 27f9b1c7b029 tried to fix: it still emits the event too soon. Instead, do a little dance: schedule the event on `main_loop` and then forward it to `tui_loop`. NOTE: after this commit, in tmux 2.3 with `focus-events` enabled, FocusGained is fired on startup and when resuming from suspend. * event/multiqueue.c: Rename "queue" to "multiqueue".Justin M. Keyes2016-10-02
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | `lib/queue.h` implements a basic queue. `event/queue.c` implements a specialized data structure on top of lib/queue.h; it is not a "normal" queue. Rename the specialized multi-level queue implemented in event/queue.c to "multiqueue", to avoid confusion when reading the code. Before this change one can eventually notice that "macros (uppercase symbols) are for the normal queue, lowercase operations are for the multi-level queue", but that is unnecessary friction for new developers (or existing developers just visiting this part of the codebase).

* loop: Improvements for thread-safetyThiago de Arruda2015-09-06
| | | | | | - Implement `loop_schedule` method for queueing events from other threads - Make `loop_poll_events` `recursive` static variable a field of the Loop structure
* event: Refactor async event processingThiago de Arruda2015-08-13
| | | | | | | | | | - Improve the implementation of deferred/immediate events. - Use the new queue module to change how/when events are queued/processed by giving a private queue to each emitter. - Immediate events(which only exist to break uv_run recursion) are now represented in the `loop->fast_events` queue. - Events pushed to child queues are propagated to the event loop main queue and processed as K_EVENT keys.
* loop: Simplify loop.c and move some code to input.cThiago de Arruda2015-08-13
| | | | | | - Declare poll timer in Loop structure instead of a loop_poll_events local variable. - Move deferred event management to input.c
* job: Replace by a better process abstraction layerThiago de Arruda2015-07-17
| | | | | | | | | | | | | - New libuv/pty process abstraction with simplified API and no globals. - Remove nvim/os/job*. Jobs are now a concept that apply only to programs spawned by vimscript job* functions. - Refactor shell.c/channel.c to use the new module, which brings a number of advantages: - Simplified API, less code - No slots in the user job table are used - Not possible to acidentally receive data from vimscript - Implement job table in eval.c, which is now a hash table with unilimited job slots and unique job ids.
* event loop: New abstraction layer with refactored time/signal APIThiago de Arruda2015-07-17
- Add event loop abstraction module under src/nvim/event. The src/nvim/event/loop module replaces src/nvim/os/event - Remove direct dependency on libuv signal/timer API and use the new abstraction instead. - Replace all references to uv_default_loop() by &loop.uv, a new global variable that wraps libuv main event loop but allows the event loop functions to be reused in other contexts.
